Brea and I walked to the State Capitol located in downtown Austin. The cornerstone for the building was laid on March 2, 1885, Texas Independence Day and the completed building was opened to the public on April 21, 1888, Sa Jacinto Day. Built in the Italian Renaissance Revival style it contains the chambers of the Texas Legislature and the office of the governor.
The capitol rotunda features portraits of every person who has served as president of the Republic of Texas and governors of the State of Texas.

I love how the hinges of the doors are decorated with the word Texas. I don't think I have ever visited a state that has more pride. There are Texas flags everywhere without the Star and Stripes present.
