Sally and I went to eat dinner ay Roy's in downtown Philadelphia. I love Roy's...it is one of my very favorite restaurants in Hawaii, San Diego and Pebble Beach. Sally had never been to Roy's...I told her we should go cause it's wonderful. Philadelphia's Roy's was one of the worst and biggest disappointments.
Our first clue should have been the empty restaurant when we arrived. There was only one other couple in the entire restaurant and guess where they wanted to sit us...right next to them. We asked for a booth on the other end of the room. We ordered a bottle of Pelligrino with 2 wine glasses full of ice. Instead they brought us one glass filled with ice...I guess they wanted us to share. We ordered dinner and it took forever to arrive...yet there were 5 chefs running around in the kitchen. I watch our entrees sit under the lights for 5 minutes before they were actually served.
Sally had ordered the The Roy's Trio Seafood...I have never seen the Hibachi Salmon sitting in a pool of soy sauce. The rice was hard. I had some olive oil infused Uku...it was okay. I felt terrible about recommending this place...maybe Roy's only great when it's next to the Pacific Ocean...who knows.
Walking back to our car we saw this place...Chocolate by the Bald Man.
We glanced at the menu...this place could bring us out of our bad dinner funk...we walked in...it also has a chocolate store...we walked through it before sitting down for dessert...
We sat at a table and ordered the Banana Split Waffles...vanilla bourbon ice cream...milk chocolate truffle and chocolate covered rice krispies...caramelized bananas...on a delicious belgian waffle.
