We were surprised to see lots of the vendors packing up at 3:00 pm at the Rose Bowl...I thought it was open till 4:30pm. But it was time to go...our feet were tired and we needed to sit, relax and have a coke.
A couple of girls from Sally's workshops had suggest we check out a place called "Gold Bug" when we were in Pasadena.
We walked into this place and thought we had died and gone to heaven! It had all the strange, quirky stuff that Sally, Brea & I adore. So many wonderful artists we didn't know about. I asked Stacy, the owner, if I could take pictures but he referred me to their website. So click on the Gold Bug name above and it'll take you to the site...you'll see all the things we drooled over. The prices here are a bit high. The Gold Bug carries one artist's collage books...we just saw this artist at the Rose Bowl offering the same books for half the price.
We had an early dinner at Il Fornaio around the corner from the Gold Bug. Brea and Sally had the Pennoni alla Vodka...
large pasta tubes with bacon, vodka-cream-tomato sauce and parmesan cheese.
I had the Capellini al Pomodoro...
angel hair pasta, chopped fresh tomatoes, marinara sauce and fresh basil. It was very delicious. Love this place...I had eaten at the Il Fornaio in Beverly Hills with my friend, Lisa...a couple of years ago and remembered how yummy it was.
Across the street was a cupcake place called "Dots." I am not one to pass up a cupcake place so we stopped in to get a couple for dessert.
We ordered our favorites...Carrot Cake for Scott & Sally...Chocolate Coconut for Sally & Me...Red Velvet for me....we were trying to decide on the sixth one and a customer in the shop told us we had to try the Mint Chocolate one. We ordered it. When we got home we were too tired to eat them...it had been one long day. The next day while Sally and I were making jewelry together we ate our cupcakes. They were delicious and moist...and they were a day old! The Mint Chocolate was a big surprise...delectable moist dark chocolate cake with a light mint frosting and crunchy chocolate balls! Oh my!!!
